The Ultimate Easter Egg Hunt: Best Hiding Spots Revealed

Your kids will be hopping with joy when they wake up Easter morning and find out you’ve planned the best Easter egg hunt ever! Whether you’re stashing them around the garden or getting creative with hiding spots in the house, our handy guide has all the tips and tricks you need to pull off the hunt of the year.

Planning Your Easter Egg Hunt

First things first when planning an easter egg hunt, pick a location!  Decide whether you are going to hold the hunt outdoors or inside your home. If you’re up for it, you can even go from indoors to out! Remember, it’s important to factor in the weather (you don’t want to be hunting for eggs in the rain!). When you start hiding the eggs, make sure to jot down where they are, so you can avoid any stragglers at the end. You can even bring a little fun to the hunt by adding some challenges! For younger children, consider assigning each child to a specific egg colour to ensure everyone gets a fair share. For older kids, you could have them follow a treasure map, with riddles hinting to where the eggs are.

Decorating Your Location for the Easter Egg Hunt

Create an immersive experience for your kids by decorating! This could include hanging up pastel-coloured buntings or banners, placing cute bunny figurines around you home or guiding your egg hunters down the right path with signs like ‘Eggs hidden this way!’ or ‘Hop over here for the hunt’. These fun little touches not only add to the experience but also can make the hunt more engaging. You can even create your own DIY setups and get the kids involved too! Think about making your own paper bunny ears and fun paper crafts or creating a cosy 'bunny burrow' with soft blankets and pillows or a 'spring garden' using oversized DIY paper flowers. And when the fun is done and it comes to putting Easter away, keep all your decorations safe with our bulk storage containers.

Where to Hide Your Easter Eggs:

Now that the location is set, it’s time to hide the eggs! This part takes the most planning, especially because you’ll want to get creative with it too. Even try thinking beyond chocolate eggs! Hollow plastic eggs can hold fun surprises like stickers or little toys, and you could even create a grand prize with bigger eggs, toys or chocolate bunnies.  When it comes to picking hiding spots, we asked our Instagram audience where they think are the best places to hide eggs in different rooms and the results were surprising!

Laundry Room Hiding Spots

Have you ever considered your laundry room as a place to hide eggs? If you have older children, this room might be a fun idea because, really, how often do they look in there? And of course, the humble laundry basket that reigns supreme as a hiding spot, with 79% of our Instagram audience saying they would hide eggs in baskets with folded towels or clean clothes. In contrast, the washing machine, while a less common choice with only 21% of responses opting for it, still is a challenging and intriguing option, particularly if eggs are placed on the drum door or balanced on the dials (make sure to consider washing machine safety). Decor’s laundry basket range, with their varied sizes and designs, are not just great functional storage but can also act as key hiding spots for the hunt!

Kitchen Hiding Spots

You’ve probably been hiding treats around the kitchen for years but in case you need some inspiration, we have gathered some of our top spots and asked our Instagram audience to weigh in too.

Kitchen Cabinets vs Pantry

The pantry was a popular choice for our Instagram community, with 71% preferring to hide eggs there. You can easily camouflage eggs amongst the many shelves and food items. Think inside cereal boxes, on tops of tin cans or even with the school snacks! The kitchen cabinets on the other hand still provide sneaky, eye-level surprises, with 29% of our responders believing they are a great hiding place. Go for spots like in between plates, inside bowls or even with the cups! Whether you hide eggs in cabinets or the pantry, Decor’s pantry storage containers can help you organise both. You can even use our crystal-clear Design Series range to showcase the eggs to make them easier to find for younger children.

Microwave vs Fridge

When we asked our Instagram audience if they would hide Easter eggs in the fridge or the microwave, 83% picked the fridge for its cool, spacious interior and multiple drawers and compartments that offer great hiding locations while keeping chocolate eggs chilled. In contrast, 17% said that the microwave, while a less conventional option, it is still fun and adds a quirky twist to the hunt. If you’re planning to do some egg seeking in the fridge, Decor’s fridge containers are a great option to not only help you organise but also create clever egg hiding nooks amongst your fruit and veggies.

Bedroom Hiding Spots

Surprise your kids as soon as they wake up by hiding eggs around their bedroom! We asked our Instagram community whether they would hide eggs in wardrobes or pillowcases, and the choice was clear with 74% going for the wardrobe. You can hide them between clothes and even in their socks for a laugh! However, 26% still favoured pillowcases for a fun alternative. You’ll have to be really sneaky though to avoid waking the kids! There are so many great nooks and crannies in kids’ rooms to get creative and stash some Easter treats in. From desk drawers to bedsides, even under rugs, the options are endless.

Unconventional Hiding Spots

While the above are all good options, don’t be afraid to really think outside the box! If you have older children, pick hiding places that they may not think to look, like coat pockets or inside shoes! When we polled our Instagram audience, it was a 50/50 split for which one they preferred, so both offer a great challenge. Some other funny and unexpected places to hide eggs could include hidden in toys like trucks or dollhouses, with their favourite stuffed animals, peeking out from a plant pot, or around any garden decorations. Incorporating more unconventional Easter egg hiding spots makes the hunt more exciting and engaging, especially if your kids are all different ages. Because nothing beats that joyful "I found one!" moment!

Tips for the Best Easter Egg Hunt

For an egg-cellent hunt all round, here are some final tips to really amp up your creative hiding strategies.

Use clear containers, like Decor’s pantry containers, for a more jackpot style hunt or even camouflage eggs to match their surroundings. Make it more of a challenge with clues or riddles for older kids or create a treasure map leading to the final prize.

Of course, safety is key! Make sure you are hiding eggs in places that match you child’s abilities and ensure all the eggs are in safe, easily accessible spots. Remember to note down and double-check hiding places after the hunt is deemed over.
